EastLink Tunnel Case Study: Enhancing Tunnel Durability with ReoCo’s Steel Fibre Reinforced Shotcrete

The Scope

2 x 3 lane, 1.6km TBM driven tunnels under sensitive Mullum Mullum creek, Mitcham/Ringwood

The Solution

It has become standard for steel fibres to be used in tunnel construction for temporary and permanent supports. For the Eastlink tunnel Reoco 65/35 steel fibre reinforced shotcrete was used in the temporary support structure as well as the final lining which consisted of a hybrid precast/cast in-situ watertight lining to prevent drawdown of the water table and maintain environmental water flows to the creek.

Benefits of ReoCo 65/30

– Excellent durability, energy absorption and crack control – Better adhesion of shotcrete to the substrate – no debonding – Speed of construction / labour and material savings – Safety – with ReoCo 65/35 steel fibre reinforced shotcrete, there is no need to hand mesh during excavation which can be dangerous.
