The Scope

Broke Rd Intersection at Pokolbin is a major dual roundabout at Pokolbin in the winery region of the Hunter Valley at the intersection of Broke & McDonald nears the Hunter Valley Gardens. This intersection is the major traffic thoroughfare for the winery region and the large number of tourists visiting the region plus the commercial traffic for the wineries. The old dual ‘T’ intersection was a major traffic hazard and difficult for people to use.

The Problem

Need to keep traffic flowing through this hub whilst the upgrade project was undertaken. Conventional reinforcement approaches would have entailed the cutting and placing of reinforcing mesh sheets, taking longer and requiring ever-changing traffic management strategies.

The Solution

GHD approved the design using ReoPave 25, which is an approved fibre by the RMS for use in roundabouts. The ReoPave 25 was mixed in at the concrete batching plant and delivered to site ready to use.

Benefits of Reopave 25

Additional benefits to the site construction team were the reduction in safety hazards due to: – Reducing trip hazards on site – Reducing site movements – Reducing the risk of cuts and scratches from sharp edged mesh – No need for hot work or grinding to cut or weld mesh reinforcement
